Is It In Photos? is a macOS app that finds photos and videos in your folders and external drives that you already have in Apple Photos. Point it at your Photos library and the folders that may hold old copies, and it tells you exactly which files are safe to clear out.
Matching starts with identical SHA-256 checksums, then uses file size, names, capture dates and a visual comparison to catch copies that were renamed or re-saved. An optional deep visual search compares pictures against your whole library, and the app can download originals from iCloud to verify them byte by byte. Every match is shown side by side with the original, so you can decide with confidence.
Nothing is deleted without your OK. Your Photos library is only ever read, never changed. Copies you approve are moved to a holding folder first, where you can restore them at any time, and only go to the Trash when you choose "Delete All". It's the safe way to reclaim gigabytes of duplicate photos and videos.

- Does not collect any personal information
- Only reads your Photos library and never modifies it
- Processes all photos, videos and fingerprints locally on your device
- Does not share any data with third parties
- Does not use any tracking or analytics
The app requires the following permissions:
- Photos library access (read-only) to compare your files with what's already in Photos
- Access to the folders you select, to scan them and move approved copies to your holding folder
